Karen Mari Helmerichs, 65, after a 3-year battle with colon cancer. Preceded
in death by father, Harold E. Gilbert; mother, Ellen L. Gilbert and brother, Harold
Stone. Survived by husband of 44 years, Robert R., sons, Robert E. and Richard
R.; daughter-in-law, Jeannine; grandchildren, Rich and Matt; brother, Jack and
sister-in-law Carol. Karen was a graduate of Macalester College. She taught elementary
school in Hopkins and was Vice President and co-owner of Rand Management, Inc.
Her volunteer work centered around Methodist Hospital, where she was President
of the Auxiliary, served many years on the Board of Governors and devoted count
less hours of volunteer work. A loving mother, dedicated businesswoman, devoted
grandmother and wonderful wife, she will be sorely missed. The family wishes to
express its gratitude for the compassionate care given by the Methodist Hospital
staff and Dr. Gail Bender and her staff. A visitation will be held 5-7 pm Wednesday
evening at Werness Brothers Chapel, 3500 W. 50th St. Services Thursday, 2 pm at
the Lakewood Chapel, Lakewood Cemetery. Memorials preferred to the Methodist Hospital
Cancer Care Fund.
